A Playground For Everyone | Shoreview photographer

shoreview photographerI was recently asked to photograph the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a new playground at one of our local schools, only it’s not just any school. It is an all-inclusive playground! Turtle Lake (27)webThis brand new playspace is a haven for kids of all ages and abilities, so that at recess, on the weekends, kids can interact side by side, in a fun and safe environment.Turtle Lake (58)webA contest in the spring determined the class that would actually get to cut the ribbon!Turtle Lake (62)webTurtle Lake (93)webYou know it’s a big achievement when the mayor is in attendance!Turtle Lake (109)webTurtle Lake 111webThis playground happened because of kindness, because of community, and because of determination. Get in your Mother’s Day pictures | Shoreview family photographer

Mothers Day portraitPlease, please do not forget to get in the picture this weekend.

I assure you I made sure to get my annual picture with the kiddos last year, but this one is my treasure. No make up, jammies, sweatshirt pulled over, coffee, breakfast in bed, reading, and allowing myself to be pampered by my girl who knows my most favorite thing is to have my hair brushed.

Yes I encouraged my husband to pick up the camera that was right there, but my prodding was rewarded with a picture that captures a moment.

All of the pictures are important, the posed ones and the moment ones, but they must be taken, so keep your camera handy, and make someone else capture you with your children this weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day!

You deserve it.

Recreate.

jjkillinsphotography2014As my kiddos get older, I find opportunities to recreate earlier photos. I’m a sucker for traditions, and I’m a sucker for anything that helps me chronicle the wonder of these two amazing beings. I have journals and photo albums and art and snippets because after almost nine years, I know you might someday forget all the little stuff.

We recently found ourselves in the same spot, almost exactly four years after a photo I took of my daughter, which you see when you land on my home page.

She was four. Now she is eight. A face changes a lot in four years, but she is just the same girl.

Look for those moments when you can stand your kids up against the same fence or near the same pond or next to the same statue. Record their growth. Then come back again and again.

Sisters | Shoreview, MN family photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing Lisa’s two beautiful daughters, and discovered these teen/tween girlies are something to behold. Gorgeous, spirited, playful, kind, thoughtful, fun to chat with. The apple doesn’t fall far, they say, as their mama is the super talented crafter/sewer extraordinaire Lisa Sheppard Pearson, whose goods you can find at craft fairs around the Twin Cities, if you’re lucky. I look forward to seeing what these girls are going to do!

I was over the moon to photograph a new design for the adorable Minneapolis label Pip & Squeak. Not only is this hoodie adorable, impeccably handcrafted, and soft as all get out, I got to put my favorite superhero in it and take him out for his very own photo session.

This little boy is a superhero everyday, enduring pricks and pokes and needles and constant monitoring of his food. And it’s just the way it is, no way around it.

He puts on this sweatshirt and goes flying around like he has superpowers, and he knows it’s just pretend, but I know different. I know he does have superpowers, those of patience and strength, and the ability to rise above it all and just be awesome.

This little boy shows me his superpowers every single day, and now, in his super hoodie, he is showing everyone!
